Since the inception of The Sports Committee,
the economic impact of sports in this community has become a
welcome addition to the Chattanooga economy. Sporting Events
that The Sports Committee has helped acquire, stage, support,
or sponsor have generated over $15 million annually in direct
visitor spending in our community.
The UTC Arena and Maclellan Gymnasium have
played major roles in helping Chattanooga host several events
including the Women's SEC Basketball Tournament, Girls' AAU Basketball,
TSSAA Wrestling and World Cup of Freestyle Wrestling.
Finley Stadium/Davenport Field has been host
to the NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game, the Southeastern
Lacrosse Championships, and TSSAA Soccer.
Historic Engel Stadium not only acts as a
stadium for the Chattanooga Lookouts, but has also hosted the
USA Olympic Baseball Team, TSSAA Spring Fling Baseball, College
Baseball, and the River City Baseball Tournament.
The Warner Park Softball Complex is among
the best in the Southeast. The complex includes a 3,000 seat
stadium and an indoor batting center. Warner Park has played
host to several world class softball events like the USA Olympic
Softball Exhibition, ASA Tournaments, Southern Conference Softball
Tournament, TSSAA Spring Fling Softball, and NSA Tournaments.
Chattanoogans should be proud of our first
class sports facilities, which make it possible for The Sports
Committee to bring quality events to our community.
