Chattanooga Retains NCAA Division I Football Championship for 2008 and 2009
CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE –The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Greater Chattanooga Sports and Events have agreed in principle for the NCAA Division I Football Championship to remain in Chattanooga for 2008 and 2009. The agreement must be approved by the NCAA Championships Cabinet before being finalized. The Championships would be played at Finley Stadium Davenport Field on Friday, December 19, 2008 and Friday, December 18, 2009. (read more)

NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee Selects Additional First and Second Round Sites for 2009 and 2010
INDIANAPOLIS –The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee has selected 17 additional first- and second-round sites for the 2009 and 2010 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship and those sites have been approved by the NCAA Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet. (read more)

Sports Committee’s Estimated Economic Impact Over $15 Million over 12th Straight Year
CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE –For the twelfth straight year, Chattanooga exceeded the $15 million mark in estimated economic impact from sporting events.  According to estimates by the Greater Chattanooga Sports and Events Committee, $16,969,600 was brought into the Chattanooga area economy through sporting events in calendar year 2007. Sports Committee Board Chairman Doug Dyer said, “I’m so proud of our staff and our community.  It is great to basically be guaranteed over $15 million in estimated economic impact each year.”(read more)

Southern Conference Awards Basketball Tournaments to Charleston and Chattanooga:
SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga in 2009 and 2010
CHATTANOOGA, TN -- The Southern Conference today announced that Chattanooga will host the 2009 and 2010 Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships and that Charleston, South Carolina will be the site of the 2008 Championships.  The vote was finalized today after a conference call of Southern Conference Athletic Directors and Conference staff. Sports Committee’s Estimated Economic Impact Nears $18 Million
CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE – For the eleventh straight year, Chattanooga exceeded the $15 million mark in estimated economic impact from sporting events.  According to estimates by the Greater Chattanooga Sports and Events Committee, $17,719,000 was brought into the Chattanooga area economy through sporting events in calendar year 2006. Sports Committee Board Chairman Doug Dyer said, “This is terrific to reach $17.7 million this year.  In a year without some of the regular big events such as AAU Girls Basketball or a major NSA girls fastpitch tournament, I think this figure is outstanding.” (read more)
